The African-American population’s purchasing power was an estimated $910 billion, more than several countries, including Australia, Taiwan, and the Netherlands.  When it comes to starting a new business, black entrepreneurs far outpaced the rest of the United States.  Black-owned businesses, where an African-American holds a 51% stake in the company, has steadily increased since 2002.  According to the latest statistics from the US Census, there were over 1.9 million black-owned businesses in 2007.
